2014-2015 Monroe PTA Program and Event Descriptions
Box Tops for Education – Save your Box Tops for Education and remit them to the PTA. A “Box Tops Drop Box” is located in the office or students can give them to their teachers. Volunteers prepare the box tops and submit them for redemption. Click the link below for more info. From this website, you can also shop online at a variety of retailers including Barnes and Noble to earn donations for Monroe.
Classroom Accounts – The PTA provides each grade level with a set amount of money (based on current grade level enrollment) that can be used towards, field trips, classroom supplies or other learning related activities such as Renascence Day. The PTA supports additional teacher request based on the current funds available.
Dining Out Fundraiser Nights – Throughout the year, the PTA sponsored dining out fundraising nights at local restaurants. You will receive notification prior to the events via a special flyer that will be distributed by your child’s home-room teacher and dates will be included in the daily bulletin. These flyers ensure that a portion of your meal (anywhere from 10%-15%) is donated back to Monroe. These are fun, social events for the whole family and are also attended by some faculty members.
eScrip and Shopping Funds – These programs are an effortless way for the PTA to receive rebates on many of your day-to-day purchases. Once you securely register your card or Safeway card through eScrip at www.escrip.com, a portion of your purchases at registered vendors is donated back to Monroe PTA. Similar programs are offered at Target.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) - is a program designed to help students build the tools necessary to be academically successful in school. This program is designed to help students achieve their dreams of going to college and the PTA supports the AVID program based on the current funds available.
Monroe Library & Future Librarians Program – A new program, established by Monroe Librarian Donna Lydon, assists students who are interested in becoming librarians. The PTA supports the efforts of Donna and the Future Librarians.
Accelerated Reader Program – All grade levels at Monroe are involved with the Accelerated Reader (A/R) Program and the PTA provides monies to support the software and other associated costs related to the student’s testing on the A/R books they have read.
Programs at Monroe – Art, Music, Math, Science , Technology - In an effort to support the school programs that are offered at Monroe, special funding requests are available to each class (subject to membership and/or Board approval) and can be used towards an educational opportunity for students (i.e. science may use their funds towards the Monroe Science Fair, classroom science projects or any other item related to the World of Science).
After School Sports – The after-school sports programs offered at Monroe include track, basketball and volleyball. Special PTA funding requests are available to the sports programs, to be used toward uniforms, nets, and equipment. The amount of dollars contributed is determined based on the available funds. Watch the daily bulletin (sign up through Power School), Monroe Maverick (bimonthly newsletter sent home with your student), and the monthly PTA Newsletter for additional information about upcoming tryouts and scheduled meets.
PTA Directory/Handbook – Families that join the Monroe PTA will receive a PTA Directory/Handbook which lists the current PTA members and their telephone numbers (listing in the Directory is optional).
PTA Meetings – The Monroe Middle School PTA Association meets several times a year in the school library. Any items you would like to have added to the agenda must be submitted to the PTA President at least one week prior to the scheduled meeting. Association business including finances, school updates, guest speakers, and community reports are presented at these meetings. Information about upcoming meeting dates is included in the daily bulletins, Monroe Maverick and the home page of this website.
Staff Appreciation Luncheons – The Hospitality Committee plans several luncheons and snacks for monthly meeting for teachers and staff throughout the year. Food and decorations are donated by parents to show appreciation for the great job that the staff does with our children.
New Teachers – It is always a pleasure for the PTA to welcome a new teacher onto the beautiful Monroe Campus. As a way to assist them in setting up their new classrooms, each new teacher to Monroe receives a stipend that can be used toward school supplies and other items required to set-up their rooms.
The PTA also supports the Monroe Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, Trimester Achievement Awards, and student reminder binders.
